Mitchell Sheinkop, MD
Mitchell B. Sheinkop, M.D., a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, is director for the joint replacement program at the Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago. He is a leading authority on the treatment of patients with complex hip and knee disorders and particularly well known for his pioneering use of computer-assisted navigation and minimally invasive technologies, including uni-compartmental knee replacement. Doctor Sheinkop also has a keen interest and is one of the leading surgeons in the country for hip resurfacing technologies. In fact, Dr. Sheinkop is one of only a few orthopedic surgeons who are trained and experienced in implanting the full range of these evolving and minimally resective systems.
Dr. Sheinkop earned his medical degree in 1967 from Finch University of Health Sciences / The Chicago Medical School, Chicago , Illinois . After receiving his degree, Dr. Sheinkop accepted a year long rotating internship with special emphasis in surgery at Cook County Hospital in Chicago . He then went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at Northwestern University School of Medicine, Chicago , Illinois in 1971. Following his residency, Dr. Sheinkop furthered his orthopedic training through fellowships in pediatric orthopedics and trauma at Hadassah Medical Center, Jerusalem, Israel, and hand surgery at Passavant Memorial Hospital, Chicago Illinois.
Dr. Sheinkop is currently Director, Joint Replacement Program at the Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago and a Professor in the Department of Orthopedics. He is an active lecturer, educator, and researcher. His many research studies and lectures have covered many orthopedic-related topics including unicompartmental minimally invasive solutions, hip resurfacing systems, and navigated arthroplasty.
